Lunchtime

School Meals

Eating lunch together is a really important part of the school day.  It is a key time to encourage independence and develop social skills, as well as to ensure everyone has a good meal.

School meals are cooked on site. From September 2025, the school catering for all the schools in the Q1E Trust will be  provided by Lunchtime Co. Our menu for the autumn term is available to download here.

We were impressed with Lunchtime Co's menu variety, sourcing of good quality local fresh produce, and positive references from other schools. Next term there will be opportunities for parents and carers to sample some of the new menus and we will provide further details about these events after the summer break.

From September, Q1E’s new partnership with Lunchtime Co and ProVeg UK will bring pupils a healthier, more sustainable menu - recognised nationally with a School Plates Silver Award. ProVeg UK is a non-profit organisation supporting over 100 caterers and thousands of schools across the UK through its School Plates programme.

At Q1E, we are committed to embedding sustainability into all that we do. Our school catering plays a key role in achieving our sustainability goals.

Our Silver Award-winning menu includes:

·        More appealing plant-based dishes

·        Tasty and nutritious vegetarian options

·        Thoughtful tweaks to reduce environmental impact while maintaining variety and flavour

·        While still keeping meat options

All meals continue to meet the School Food Standards and have been designed with pupil health and satisfaction in mind. If you would like to find out more, please download the food and climate information sheet and the details of the menu changes behind our School Plates Silver Award.

Universal Free School Meals

The Mayor of London announced that all primary school children in the capital will receive free school meals from September 2023 to help with the cost-of-living crisis. In April 2024, he confirmed that this programme would continue for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 academic years. All children from Reception to Year 6 will be offered a school meal this academic year, free of charge to parents and carers.

Packed Lunches

If you prefer, your child may have a packed lunch. We ask that you ensure packed lunches are healthy and well balanced, as we do encourage healthy eating at school. Try these healthy packed lunch ideas.
Please note the following points about packed lunches:

  • No nuts. The school is a nut free school so please check carefully and avoid nut products in lunch boxes. Some of our children have severe nut allergies.
  • No sweets, chocolates or fizzy drinks
  • No glass bottles or breakable containers

Lunch for Nursery Children

Nursery children who have lunch at school will be required to pay for their meals. The cost of school meals is currently £13.75 for the week. Meals must be paid for in advance, weekly, half termly or for the whole term. The meal preference can be changed at the start of each half term only. You cannot alternate between packed lunch and school meals.

We use SchoolComms to provide a payment service for school meals. You can access this secure online payment service at any time, track how much you have paid, and make payments directly to us using your debit or credit card. You will need to register for a School Gateway account, using the email address and mobile number we have on record for you.

Your child may be entitled to a free school lunch if you are on a low income or on certain benefits e.g. Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance.  Please fill out this form and return it to admin@bellevillewix.q1e.org.uk.
If your child is eligible for free school lunch, please register their entitlement even if they have packed lunches. This can affect school funding and will make you automatically eligible for grants for school journeys.
